Sudan is hot, hot, hot and that, combined with a conservative dress code, means it’s best visited during cooler months. Note that even winter in Sudan is pretty warm, with temperatures no cooler than the low 80s (Farenheit) during the day. Lightweight clothing is a must in Sudan! 

November – February: Sudan isn’t exactly cool during these months, but it is the coolest part of the year. In Khartoum, temperatures can range between 80 and 95 degrees Fahrenheit during this time, dropping to the low 70s in the evening.

Sudanese cuisine is unfamiliar to most, but many will be surprised to find familiar elements to most of the dishes. The food gives a nod to its neighbors, with dishes and flavors influenced by Egypt, Ethiopia, and beyond.

Most Sudanese food is hearty, with both familiar staples such as fava beans and falafel and less familiar ones, like waika (okra stew) and aseeda (wheat porridge).

Other staple dishes include kisra (light, porous bread), mullah (vegetable stew), and na’ameya (peanut-based stew).
